My 6 Top Ways To Ground Guide!
Here are the 6 top ways I use to ground myself. Why not try each in turn to see which resonates with you.
Bear in mind though, that this might vary from day-to-day and will depend on how you are feeling and what you have been doing.
1. Walk Barefoot on Mother Earth….
Be that walking barefoot on grass, soil, rocks, slate tiles, concrete and brick (as long as they are not painted or sealed), or ceramic tiles. Or…..
Lie on a lawn, rock or beach – hold the intention that all that is ready to be cleared be absorbed by Mother Earth – don’t worry that you are contaminating her or causing her harm. Her role is to transform energy, it’s what she does – leaves, old fruit and even our bodies are returned to her to be transformed into a different form of energy.
Walking through a wood or forest will not only help you ground it will also clear your energy field too – it’s like having a cleansing shower, removing negative energy and psychic debris from your aura. While you are in the forest you could also hug a tree – that’s very grounding too!
Exercising and moving your body brings you more in touch with your physicality – it reminds you that you have a body, and, you will be much more aware of it’s needs too!
It is so easy for us to get so absorbed in ‘things’ outside of ourselves that we take no notice of our physical body. So instead of zoning out in front of your favourite TV show and being transported to a fantasy land, get up off the couch and get your body moving! Try yoga, Chi-Kung, dancing, swimming, walking, aerobics, Zumba, weight lifting, jogging – anything that gets you moving AND that you really enjoy doing.
3. Grounding Meditation
Grounding meditations are a great way to reconnect to Mother Earth.
Sit quietly and notice how your feet feel on the floor or ground. Can you really feel the ground under your feet? What does it feel like? Check and compare how it feels under each of your feet – they often feel different!
Now imagine roots going from your feet wide and deep into Mother Earth. Also imagine a thick root extending from the base of your spine, travelling deeper and deeper into Mother Earth.
Imagine them travelling down through all the layers of the planet all the way to the core of the Earth.
This will ground you energetically.
4. Through Presence and Breath
Being in the present moment is also very grounding.
Take a few moments and sit in a chair or better yet, sit outside on the grass under a tree, or on the beach. Allow yourself to get quiet. Then just look, listen, and feel. Feel the air gently stroking your body. Perhaps you can feel the warmth of the sun on your skin or body.
Notice what you smell and what you hear and absorb the present moment.
If your mind wanders bring it to focusing on your breath.
Just be – just be in the moment – no future, no past, just now. Feel yourself connecting with nature and the world around you. Experience the sense of being at One with everything.
Not only will this ground you, it will bring you back to you and your centre.
5. Eat Grounding Foods
Back in the day we would have used something sweet like a biscuit or chocolate to ground ourselves, to brings us back to feeling more ‘here’, and more solid.
These days it’s recommended to eat, root vegetables, foods that have grown in the soil, e.g. potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots or ginger etc.
6. Use Crystals
I find working with and holding crystals to be very grounding. In fact I often use Angel Healing Bowl with pink swirlmy favourite Angel Healing Prayer Crystal Bowls to ‘ground’ myself before a healing session with clients or at the beginning of my meditation practice.
There are many crystals whose properties are well known for grounding and you can find details of them in Judy Hall’s book ‘The Crystal Bible: A Definitive Guide to Crystals”.
My two favourites are Fire Agate and black Tourmaline. Here is what Judy’s book says about each of them:

Ways to Use Your Crystals
You can use crystals in a variety of ways. You could wear them on your body, as jewellery or in your pocket – I know some healers who pop them in their bra!
You can keep them by your bedside or under your pillow while you sleep. Or you can make an elixir from them by steeping them in water. A friend of mine keeps a crystal in her water bottle.
Cleanse Your Crystals Frequently
It’s important to cleanse your crystals frequently as they absorb negative energy and this needs to be dispersed. There are many different ways to cleanse your crystals. You could bury them in the earth for a couple of days. You could wash in running water or in the ocean. You can waft incense or sage over your crystal. Please check with a reliable source before cleansing your crystals in salt, as this can be damaging to some crystals.
